Wow! That's exactly why the Kentucky Derby is so great! A horse who NOBODY figured wins at 50:1! He didn't win by some fluke, jockeys falling off, horses breaking down, some wild and weird thing...........Borel "stole the race" with his familiar "rail trip" running a shorter distance than any other in the race.

What will be the odds on this Triple Crown!

Half way through, he was DAL (Dead Ass Last), but what a terrific ride home to the wire! Passed the top contender big names, like they were standing still! I mean going away at the biggest margin anyone can remember in the Kentucky Derby! No one will ever forget the 2009 Kentucky Derby for the fantastic ride on the surprise horse.

It also reminds everyone, why we always play at least one Pick Three "All Leg" through the big race in our Triple Crown packages. Our $1 P3 paid $579 (despite two huge favorites winning the other two legs) and served as our insurance policy for the Derby.

Wednesday is a very good day to play Churchill Downs if you like to shoot for big Pick Six money. With the large carryover from Derby Day, I expect the P6 pool to be $2,000,000 to $3,000,000, a nice day to hit it!

Apr 30, 2009 - Throwin' out a big fave

By this time tomorrow night (Friday), all of our Triple Crown Pkg. and Kentucky Derby players will have our selections for the big day on Saturday!

All my preparation for this year has been a treat, as I'm coming up with long shots with a real chance. We'll be using them in our Trifecta and Superfecta plays and a barn burner Exacta Box play which goes strictly for the gold. Win or lose, I think it's a very good play........and if we hit........break out the good stuff!

OK, hears a teaser, Pioneer of the Nile fans won't like my key selections, because I'm not using him. Love his running style, but there are too many big price horses with a better chance to carry speed to the end, so I can't bring myself to use him at a fairly short price. I figure if you have to use him, do so (you can always add him in to my selections), but I'm leaving him out. Again, several big prices have demonstrated they can get and hold more speed.

We'll also be using the Derby as an "All Leg" in one of our key plays and we've got a good chance to see another very good price in the other 2 legs as well. The key to using a 20-horse All leg is keeping the ticket both affordable and having enough value potential to carry the play as a "good wager".

For those gambling on us being exactly right, we'll have a couple low priced , but big Power plays. If we are exactly right this year.........let's get our due compensation at the pay window.

Bring on the Kentucky Derby!

As a warm up for Saturday, Hollywood Park has a good card on Friday (First Post 1:00pm PDT), featuring a $65,000 Pick Six Carryover! Paul and I plan to pick up some cash on Friday afternoon, because we'll be playing more than usual on Derby Day, it's the time to do it!

Apr 30, 2009 - Kentucky Derby Post Positions

The Kentucky Derby Post Positions could not have worked out better for the stalking Top Contenders. With, I Want Revenge out at #13, Dunkirk at #15, and Pioneer of the Nile at #16, the "Press Favorites", along with Friesan Fire in Post Position 6, got just what they wanted, which is no one trapped on the far inside and better still, all the expected speed horses on the middle to inside.

My view of the post position draws suggest a more orderly race.......well, as much as it can be with 20 horses going. There will likely be a couple or 3 rabbit attempts, but it's less of a concern for the 7 or 8 which can win this race, as it appears the speed will be isolated on the crowded inside. Baring anything really stupid, we shouldn't see the meltdown of '05, where the speed came from all quarters, setting off near panic and lesser horses picked up the pieces in the end. It also cost Afleet Alex the Triple Crown, but that's just my opinion.

Best part is we can handicap the big race under a scenario where the Trifecta and Superfecta winners get paid off handsomely from good handicapping assumptions and being "right", rather than the luck factor. All that said, we have very big odds long shots with an entirely reasonable chance of cracking into the Win, Place, or Show positions. In fact, we have three Long Shots who figure right on the wire with the mentioned faves. This is going to be one great Kentucky Derby! More on the Derby tomorrow. No racing at Hollywood Park on Thursday, due to the horse shortage. They will be back Friday at Hollywood with a 1:00pm PDT first post with a good card and a $64,925 Pick Six Carryover. Wednesday Re Cap: Our 20:1 long shot got to the wire first in the seventh giving our Best Betters a nice trifecta win. It was the one which also assured a P6 carryover for Friday. On to Thursday: Our Best Bets will all be at Belmont Park, where the best racing is happening on Thursday. We've got a long shot P3 in races 4-5-6 and enough separation to play some low cost power trifectas over the nine-race card. Good Luck at Belmont Park on Thursday and anytime you're At The Track!
