Just 24 days before the Kentucky Derby kicks off the Triple Crown! If you're a horse player, you're excited; and I am a horse player.
The Arkansas Derby goes on Saturday and ever since Smarty Jones won the Arkansas Derby and then went on to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2004, this race has received respect. Rightfully so and especially this year to answer a couple big questions. #1 Is Old Fashioned a real contender, like everyone thought before his last disappointing outing? #2 Win Willy a fluke or for real? I thought fluke, but we'll see for sure on Saturday in Hot Springs. By the way, Smarty Jones was one of only 2 horses capable of winning the Triple Crown in the last 10 years and should have won it in '04 if it wasn't for the worst ride I've ever seen in the Belmont Stakes. What a shame, it makes me sick every time I think of it and I didn't have a dime on the race. In any event, the Kentucky Derby is still "the spectacle" of the year and hope springs eternal for another dynamite horse race and another super big cash!
Santa Anita has some good racing this weekend. I particularly like four races on Saturday, the 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th. I think we'll see much better prices on Saturday, following a downright chalky card on Friday. Speaking of Friday, our Free Friday Long Shot, 5th of November, got rolling a bit too late and managed only 4th place. Had he started sooner, a sure winner at 12:1, but that's horse racing.
