The Kentucky Derby is only 4 days away, so it's time to fire up the keyboard and send you my thinking over the next few days.
First and foremost, there is simply no better horse racing event than the Derby. The best wagering pools of the year for one race! It's a great day to be right because the pools are so large and soooooo distorted there is an awful lot of money to be made. Here are some of my observations:
- Of the 20 running.........12 have no chance to win, but all but 7 have a chance underneath! Underneath, needs some serious study. Why? There is big money in the trifecta and superfecta pools. Something else, 3rd and 4th positions often are not the Top Contenders who just fail to win it. Very often, you have horses running at a time pace good enough to finish "in the money". If they run their timed pace correctly, they pass some of the tiring Top Contenders and are forever remembered as the horse who ran 3rd or 4th or 5th in the Kentucky Derby. It's a marvelous distinction to have for many of the entries! Better yet, it often means downright awesome payouts for the Trifecta and Superfecta betters. Ever see a trifecta pay $100,000 or a superfecta pay $1,000,000? I have, and it was in the Kentucky Derby.
- This, of course, will be a terrific time to have the winner as well and all the handicappers (including us) will take their best educated shot. Everyone and their brother takes a shot for the winner. Many of whom it's the only play they make all year. There's no "Big Brown" this year for all these folks to play.........but they will play.......this year, there are a lot of horses with a very good chance and we'll definitely have a straight trifecta play to go along with our other recommendations. I love the straight trifecta play and it's hard to hit, but when you're right........Wow! What a great way to throw down a $20 bill, and get paid off Very Large if you're exactly right!
More on the Derby tomorrow..................
